Under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, has approved the ‘Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033’. This visionary strategy will help ensure the well-being of all aspects of the community, including nationals, residents, and visitors.
PRIORITISING THE WELLBEING OF DUBAI'S POPULATION
HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed emphasized that Dubai's sustainable development strategies centre around caring for its people. The success of government programs is assessed on the well-being of the population. This is therefore the primary goal of development plans.
DUBAI'S VISION FOR 2033
The Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033 includes over 200 projects, initiatives, and plans. It focuses on ten key pillars aimed at fostering the well-being of individuals, society, and the city. Plus, phase 1 of the plan will also create over 20 investment opportunities. Yet, the overall goal is to establish Dubai as one of the world’s best cities in terms of quality of life.
A COMPREHENSIVE PUBLIC-PRIVATE APPROACH
A dedicated office will oversee all projects in the strategy. It will work with over 19 government entities and many private organizations. Through this approach, the private sector will lead many projects and initiatives. This way the strategy can maximise the impact it has on the community's wellbeing. Along with this, the strategy also aligns with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. In doing so it ensures integrated urban development citywide.
INNOVATIVE INITIATIVES AND IMPROVED MOBILITY
The strategy includes innovative ideas with sustainability at its core. These include wellbeing districts and developing new parks. They are also aiming to transform mobility in Dubai through innovative solutions and infrastructure. For example, the strategy looks towards transforming Dubai into a 20-minute walkable city. This prioritises walkability throughout Dubai, making it a pedestrian-focused city. Concerning this, the city also aims to reduce private vehicle usage, encourage public transport, and enhance access to popular attractions. This will also coincide with reducing the city's carbon footprint and improving road safety. So, these plans aim to make the environment healthier and more enjoyable for everyone.
To encourage active lifestyles, the strategy integrates over 115 km of pedestrian and cycling tracks. They are also planting more than 3,000 trees and plants. Yet there is even more greenery planned too. This includes plans for over 30 new parks in Dubai within three years. These parks will feature innovative elements to cater to diverse community needs.
NEIGHBOURHOOD UPGRADES IN DUBAI
Al Mizhar 1, Al Khawaneej 2, and Al Barsha 2 will receive infrastructure upgrades. These upgrades will improve social amenities and create healthier living spaces. They will also play an important role in enhancing connectivity between community hubs. In doing so the aim is to make these neighbourhoods better places to live.
ACCELERATED IMPLEMENTATION
HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed directed all government departments to speed up the implementation of projects linked to the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy. This directive aims to ensure the timely delivery of initiatives aimed at enhancing the well-being of Dubai's residents.
PILLARS OF WELL-BEING OF THE DUBAI QUALITY OF LIFE STRATEGY
The Dubai Quality of Life Strategy also covers ten key pillars: culture and entertainment, the natural environment, urban environment, mobility, society and family, economic environment, employment and work conditions, education, safety and security, and health. These pillars tackle different aspects of well-being for individuals, society, and the city. In doing so, it helps bring the community closer together. So, by putting people's needs first, this strategy aims to enhance the overall quality of life in Dubai.
AN INCLUSIVE FOCUS WITH CULTURAL ENRICHMENT
The strategy reaches everyone in the community: women, seniors, people of determination, children, youth, and white-collar workers. Its goal is to build a unified society that embraces differences and holds onto cultural heritage and values. In doing so, it aims to create cohesion while celebrating diversity.
Along with this, culture and entertainment play a significant role in the strategy. Here there is a strong focus on enriching Dubai’s cultural and creative profile. The goal is to develop Dubai into a global hub for culture and creativity. In doing so, it offers diverse opportunities for residents and visitors to engage in creative experiences.
INVESTMENT IN YOUTH
Children and youth are a priority in the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy. It focuses on investing in their development through initiatives that include promoting mental health, providing guidance and counselling, and creating opportunities for youth to contribute to Dubai's sustainable development journey.
DUBAI'S FUTURE FOCUS ON WELLBEING
The Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033 sets clear outlines for the emirate's future priorities. It focuses on resident well-being at the core of urban development. By adopting this approach, Dubai aims to be a global model for sustainable and happy living. This focus on people's well-being is also likely to attract tourists, businesses, and talent.
